President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz currently Co-Chairing the Government to Business Roundtable comprising Honourable Ministers from Nigeria and Members of the Chancellor's delegation to Nigeria from Germany at the State House, Abuja. Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory at the Supreme Court. In a statement signed by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, the Minister described the Supreme Court's affirmation of the President's election as deserving and fitting revalidation of the popular choice millions of Nigerians made on February 25th, this year. According to her, "Nigerians were clear on their choice of President on the election day. President Tinubu was their choice and they overwhelmingly voted for him. The Chairman and members of the Federal Executive Council of Nigeria on Monday approved the creation of the Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund which is a flexible form of financing that is designed to help Nigeria adequately respond to humanitarian crises, emergencies, and internal displacement challenges as well as adequately address the issue of poverty in the country. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday approved the establishment of a Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Trust Fund as part of the administration’s efforts to cushion the economic hardship on vulnerable Nigerians. President Bola Tinubu, who presided over the weekly FEC meeting, conveyed the approval to the cabinet members in attendance at the State House. Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of humanitarian affairs, who briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, said the fund is expected to garner up to $5 billion annually from Government, Donors, Private sectors, Philanthropic individuals, and other innovative forms of resource mobilization. According to Edu, there would be a governing board that would supervise the implementation of the fund. Federal Government Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has included vulnerable ex-servicemen, Widows, and dependants of fallen heroes in the National Social Register (NSR) to benefit from the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) and other Social Intervention programs. Emotions ran high Thursday when the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu met with the rescued students of the Federal University Gusau and assured them of improved security and immediate humanitarian response to support their recovery process. Dare-devil bandits had recently struck at the University and kidnapped twenty five (25) female students in their hostels. However, sixteen of them have been rescued by security forces. Speaking when she took the message of Renewed Hope to the Management and Students of the Federal University of Gusau, in company of the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, the Minister said President Ahmed Bola Tinubu was concerned by the unfortunate incident adding that he would ensure the safe return of the remaining students. The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will from next month start payment of twenty five thousand Naira (25,000) grants to the benefiting members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners captured in the expanded National Social Register of the Conditional Cash Transfer, (CCT) Scheme. Minister For Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, announced this Wednesday when she met with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC led by its President Joe Ajaero at the Labour House, Abuja. Inhabitants of Oko Agbon and other riverine communities in Lagos State were in a jubilant mood over the weekend as no fewer than 1,500 of them benefitted from the Free Medical Outreach and Distribution of Food items by the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu. The Medical Outreach was part of the Minister's itinerary during her visit to the riverine area of the State to flag off the verification of the Expanded National Social Register.
