Politics: Court orders N180 million payment for security votes to Deputy Governor- Central Reports

 The National Industrial Court, sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, ordered the Kogi State Government, to pay the former Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba, the sum of N180 million. The sum represents the amount of money due to him as outstanding security votes from April 2018, to August 2019. Delivering the judgement, Justice Oyebiola Oyewunmi, said, ordered the state government to pay the sum within the 30 days or with a 30 per cent interest monthly interest. The court, however, dismissed Achuba’s prayers, demanding for the payment of N328.32,000m as part of outstanding imprest payable to him. Achuba, had earlier dragged the Kogi State government before the National Industrial Court, seeking a declaration that the decision by the government to withhold his allowances, amounted to unfair labour practice. He asked for the payment of N921,572,758 for security vote, monthly imprest, travelling allowances, outstanding memos, and statutory allocations due to his office, as then deputy gov...

  The United States Government says it has imposed a visa restriction on some individuals for their actions during the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa state elections and in the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo state elections. Although elections have not yet held in Edo and Ondo states, the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, imposed the visa restriction on these individuals due to their conduct in the run-up to the poll. This is according to a statement signed by the spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, on Monday.  “In July 2019, we announced the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians who undermined the February and March 2019 elections. The affected aspirants are a former speaker and current Majority Leader of the House of Assembly, Monday Bubou Obolo; Mr Gideon Ekeuwei; Mr Charles Ambaiowei and Igo Goin. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said the attempt by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to rationalize the excruciating hardship being suffered by Nigerians under the Buhari administration has further given the party out as an insensitive group of people. NEC gives update on 14 by-elections in eight states

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that 13 political parties have signaled their intention to conduct primaries for the forthcoming by-elections. On October 31, fourteen legislative polls will be conducted in ten states. The conduct are for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District; Bayelsa West Senatorial District; Nganzai State Constituency, Borno; Bayo State Constituency, Borno; Cross River North Senatorial District; Obudu State Constituency, Cross River. I’m not working for Obaseki — ex-INEC staff A former director in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, yesterday, denied allegations levelled against him by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State that he is working in cahoots with Governor Godwin Obaseki to rig the September 19 governorship election in the state. Similarly, INEC debunked the APC allegations which it described as baseless and assured of its impartiality in the election.
