CONVID-19: Open Letter To Cross River State Commissioner For Health
CONVID-19: Open Letter To Cross River State Commissioner For Health
23/3/2020
Hon. Dr. Betta Edu
Commissioner for Health
CRSG.
Dear Madam,
There Are No Sanitizers Anywhere!
Madam, I will like to quickly applaud your efforts and that of your ministry, so far, in attending to this China-America virus that has taken so much lives than it has given. The airport stop-&-search and the social media sensitization campaign remain your ministry's only efforts; though seemingly insignificant, howbeit, it will be cheer ungratitudeness if I don't commend you for it, nonetheless.
I'm aware you are up-to-date with the progress report of this "CONVIKK ONE NINE" like General Buhari called it yesterday. From 1 confirmed case in first week of March to 2 confirmed cases in second week and 4 confirmed cases last week and today, 35 confirmed cases, whereas it is just Monday.
We have read the report from Atiku Abubakar that one of his sons tested positive. We have also read the report from Channels TV that one of Muhammadu Buhari's daughters has been quarantined for 4 days now after returning from UK - what if the cross examination report by the end of tomorrow says she too, is positive?
It is a common motto in health profession - your profession, that; "prevention is better than cure". Ma, what preventive measures have you put in place, should CONVID-19 opts for a visit?
Madam, I heard you, in one of those sensitization notes of yours, mentioning hand washing sanitizers as a frontline preventive exercise and I'm eager to know how many of these sanitizer equipments your ministry has installed!
I have visited the State's New Secretariat; visited over 10 notable hotels in Calabar; about 5 ATM stands; 3 major super markets; et'al and I make bold to say *There Are No Sanitizers Anywhere!*
Madam, I write to humbly request that:
1. Your ministry, as a matter of urgent public importance, installs hand washing sanitizer equipments at the entrance of all public offices in the state.
2. You compel banks to install these equipments at their enterance and at their respective ATM stands in Calabar metropolis and beyond; in super markets; hotels; churches and all other public facilities across the state.
3. You set up a surveillance team to ensure strict compliance by owners of the above listed private businesses within 48hours.
4. Set up a CONVID-19 screening team at all motor parks for vehicles returning from Lagos & Abuja.
5. Set up a prayer band and sponsor, at least a 7-day fasting and prayers by the band - except the Lord watches over a city, those that watch do that at their own pleasure.
Madam, I await a quick reply from you, not in words but action. And, until we meet again in my next letter, stay safe!
Yours Compatriot
Endurance Onun (Mazi)
23/3/2020.
