RE: "ROTIMI AMEACHI & CO, STOP KILLING APC CRS THROUGH YOUR HIGH HANDEDNESS & IMPOSITION...
COMMUNIQUE BY THE COALITION OF APC SUPPORT GROUPS IN NIGERIA, CRS CHAPTER DURING HER EMERGENCY MEETING ON MONDAY 16TH OF MARCH 2020."
BY GODDIE AKPAMA
Ordinarily one would have ignored the feeble attempt of the so-called support group to truncate the recent appointment of Chief Akin Ricketts as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), but keeping sealed lips would amount to tacit approval of the destructive tendency! such a move would have on the APC in Cross River State, and the state in general.
However, let it be on record that this piece is not a rejoinder in the real sense of the word because the signatories to the communiqué are small birds dancing to the orchestra of big drummers in the bush.
When ever, the drummers are courageous enough to step out into the public space with their useless noise, they will be adequately replied in like sum.
But suffice to state that it is high time we stop denying Cross River State opportunities at the national level through our own acts of wickedness which unfortunately are triggered by pure selfish consideration.
At a period Cross River State has lost, in quick succession, the position of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN; Head of Service, HoS, of the Federation; and the Special Panel on Corruption and Recovery of Public Property!
We must ensure that it shouldn't be out of our own doing, (the Pull Him Down, PHD, Syndrome), that our own Chief Akin Rickets of the state APC chapter, and the state in entirety is denied the headship of the Board of the NPA.
Lest we forget, for those of us who know, Chief Akin Ricketts is a member of the APC, and was one of those from their quiet conners who were instrumental to bringing peace to the Cross River State chapter of the party in 2014 and the emergence of the state exco headed then by Pastor. Usani Usani.
In his place of birth Ijiman Ward, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, Chief Ricketts remains one of the strongest pillars of the APC. Working with others such as Chief Utum Eteng, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, they were able to deliver Yakurr in most of the elections in 2019 to the APC.
In the area of infrastructural development, Chief Ricketts, though without any official portfolio under the APC government, has contributed immensely towards the provision of infrastructure such as the reconstruction of one of the worst roads in Ugep.
In 2019, Chief Akin Ricketts vied to represent Cross River Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the platform of the APC. He spent his time, money and other resources to do so, organized men, women, youths within and outside the APC ahead of the 2019 elections. These activities of his also contributed to the good outing recorded by the APC in not just Yakurr, but in the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, in the Central Senatorial District and the entire state during the last election.
Blaming the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi of nominating his friends in Cross River State among Chief Akin Rickets, and thereby discriminating against others and causing problems and disunity in the party is uncharitable and smacks of ingratitude to a man who has done so much for the state chapter of APC.
From his privileged position as Minister of Transportation, Amaechi, in the midst of pressure from bigger political fishes from other states such as Dr. John James Akpan-Udoedehe from Akwa Ibom, still nominated our own Chief Akin Ricketts as Board Chairman of the NPA. Why would such an act of honour done to Cross River State by the minister be reciprocated with ingratitude from some self-centered , members of the APC in the state.
Instead of those handful of ingrates organising a delegation to go and thank Amaechi for giving them a position once headed by the powerful Chief Tony Anehni, they are busy crying fowl over nothing because, this time around the lot does not fall on one of them. What a generation of ingrates!
Is it not the same Amaechi that has been instrumental to the stability and funding of the state APC chapter since its formation. Was it not Amaechi that helped in settling the leadership dispute in the state chapter of APC in 2014, which culminated in Cross River State producing the South-south Zonal Vice Chairman of the party in the person of Ntufam Hilliard Eta, even when Akwa Ibom was also entitled to that very prized position once occupied by a no- mean-feat politician as High Chief Tom Ikimi from Edo State? Are these supports from Amaechi indicators of how he has been causing disunity in the Cross River State APC chapter? In deed only last December, the same Amaechi sent 500 bags of rice to the APC in Cross River State which some of those responsible for the communiqué benefited and shared among themselves. It is surprising that those who benefited and have been benefiting directly and indirectly from all the actions of Amaechi towards Cross River State are the ones crying loudest.
All things being equal, Chief Akin Rickets will be sworn in the name Jesus by tomorrow , Friday, March 2020 as Board Chairman of the NPA, along side others who will serve with him.
When it happens, let's rejoice and thank God so that in future good things will happen to you and others will rejoice with you.
It is time to stop the "PHD Syndrome" in Cross River State Chapter of the APC.
Let's wise up!
