A GRAND RECEPTION FOR MAJOR GENERAL JOSEPH ONUN IWARA AT THE COMMAND MESS, ABUJA - by Daniel Ubana

A Yakurr son was among the recently thirty nine promoted Army Generals by the Nigeria Army to the glory of God. A grand reception was organised by his family members and friends to honour him in his new rank of an Army General on the 6th of November, 2020

The reception party was preceded with a church Thanksgiving service at the Holy Cross Catholic Church at Gwarinpa  Abuja. 

During theThanksgiving, the officiating Preist prayed  to God to continue to guide and protect him specially during the course of his duties. He urged him to see the new rank as God's blessings on him and he should continue to serve God and be dedicated to his duties and to his father land.

At the reception, his colleagues - in - arms both servving and retired were on hand to grace the occasion. Among those present were Real Admiral Gabriel Okoi (retd),Major General Parker from Obudu, Cross River State who also got promoted alongside the thirty Nine, Major General Victor Offiong, Major General Shafa, Brigadier General Eno Eno and Brigadier General Uket, and host of other colleagues. 

The reception was also graced by other prominent sons and daughters of Cross River State and his brothers and sisters from Yakurr.

Among those who came include Amabasssor Nfawa Abam of the Ministry Foreign Affairs, Chief Lawrence Oden, a retired Director from the Federal Public Service, Offem Ibiang, the Public Relation Officer of the Arab Contractors, Eugene Eteng, an Abuja based business man, Mr. Ikpi Iwara Offem of the Federal Minsyry of Judtice among other attendees.

The reception was full with fun and pageantry as the comedian's side attractions added colour to the already high tempo setting. 

There was enough to go around and the cuisine that was accompanied with assorted drinks from the orientals complimented the already elated environment. 

The classical music of sweet old tunes helped guests to unwind in a very relaxed conival scenario. It was a graceful occasion as invited guests seized the opportunity to renew relationships of old friends.

Those who gave freewill speeches thanked God for making it possible for Major General Joseph Onun Iwara to be among those promoted. They advised him to remain a loyal member of the Armed Forces and continue to be diligent to his duties. 

They urged all his family members and  friends to continue to pray for him as this rank is the most trying moments of his career. They congratulated his wife for been the pillar of his success and urged her to continue to be the good and dependable wife she is to her husband.

Chief Daniel Ubana, speaking on behalf of the Obol Lopon of Ugep and the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, His Royal Majesty, Obol Offem Ubana- XVI, thanked President Mohammedu Buhari GCFR, and the Military High Command for approving the promotion of one of his sons to the enviable rank of a Major General. He further stated that "me being an Officer of the Nigeria Army, knows what honour this promotion has bestowed to my people". He advised the General to continue to be a loyal Officer to the Nigerian nation and the Military High Command.

In his appreciation, Major General Joseph Onun Iwara thanked Mr Predident and the Military High command for his promotion. He thanked his family members and friend who came together to organised the reception for him. He said " I am most grateful to you all. God bless and replenish your pockets where this came from"

He specifically thanked his dear wife and children for always standing by him whenever he needed their support.

In all, the Yakurr people are most grateful.
