United Nations International Children Emergency Fund, UNICEF, has commenced a three- day training of AD-HOC VOLUNTEERS on Electronic Civil Vital Registration Statistics( ECVRS) for children between age zero to five years in Nigeria.

The training which was in Collaboration with the National Population Commission, NPC, held contemporaneously at the three senatorial District in Cross River State. (North, Central and South).

The Training Facilitator, for NPC, Mr Ernest Azu, charged the trainees to expand their knowledge on the new system of digital birth enrollment .

He explained that the training was intended to acquaint the ad- hoc volunteers with information on
ECVRS before they would be statio to different wards in the state for the assignment.

He said that computer knowledge was needed for the volunteers to effectively deliver, stressing that harvesting data about new births is veritably pivotal to Government for acceptable planning.

“ The job requires a good knowledge of computer and android phone. So, you must pay attention to every detail of the training. I encourage you to be passionate about the job for offspring sake ”.

He, still, advised the volunteers against any sharp practices in the field, stressing that the enrollment is free of charge, as UNICEF is subsidizing the Process including payment of the registrars.

According to him, the foundation of protection of children’s rights starts with their identity through birth enrollment and certification.

He said ” The birth certificate plays a lot of role in giving the child a name and identity. This training isn't a data stalking exercise, but it's aimed at ensuring that the right of a child is given to the child.
