Interactive Dinner Session: A New Dawn of Collaboration for Boki Leaders
In a historic display of unity and cooperation, the Executive Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, Eti-Eka Hon. Mrs. Beatrice Etta Nyiam hosted an interactive dinner session with Boki leaders across party lines in Abuja. The event marked a significant milestone in the chairman's commitment to fostering unity, collaboration, and driving progress in Boki LGA.
A New Era of Leadership
Hon. Mrs. Beatrice Etta Nyiam expressed her gratitude to God, their Excellencies the Executive Governor of Cross River State Prince Bassey Edet Otu and his aimable wife, Bishop Dr Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, the mother of the State, and the people of Boki for the peaceful council elections held on November 2, 2024, and her emergence as the Council Boss. She emphasized the importance of collaboration with critical stakeholders to realize her vision for effective leadership.
Key Areas of Development
The dinner session provided a platform for brainstorming on the administration's blueprint for Boki LGA, focusing on four key areas:
1. Health: Revamping dilapidated primary healthcare centres and getting them with competent personnel trained to operate available equipment. She urged all Sweet Prince friends to help complete the only secondary health facility, general hospital, in Boki.
2. Education: Establishing JAMB Centres in Boki to reduce risks associated with travelling to neighbouring LGAs and states for examinations. She said that she was poised as well to renovation dilapidated schools, retraining of teachers, etc
3. Environmental Sustainability: Addressing indiscriminate logging in Boki forests to preserve natural resources.
4. Economic Development: Creating a high brow timber market between Onitsha farm and Enyi Boje to generate youth employment, attract furniture markers, and boast the Council's Internally Generated Revenue(IGR)
Session Highlights and General Opinions
The session highlighted several key takeaways, including:
A. Reintroducing Game Reserves: Work toward the re-establishment of game reserves with enhanced security to protect the forest and its wildlife.
B. Sustainable Logging: Implementing re-afforestation programs to balance resource utilization with conservation.
C. Community Engagement: Encouraging Boki communities to adopt the Bumaji Model by establishing community-level timber and forest task forces.
Feedback from the Chairman
In her closing remarks, Hon. Mrs. Beatrice Etta Nyiam expressed gratitude to H E Col. Edor Obi, former MilGov of Bayelsa State, Amb. Soni Abang, Barr George Ekpungu, Amb. Peter Edako, Prof Oshita Oshita, and many others for their very invaluable pieces of advice. She reaffirmed His Excellency Prince Bassey Edet Otu's drive and commitment to develop the rural areas and reaffirmed her commitment to implementing the resolutions reached at the session. She pledged regular engagement with stakeholders and assured attendees of her resolve to address logging issues and work toward sustainable solutions.
The event concluded with a prayer led by Mrs. Stella Owan of NYSC, to mark a successful and groundbreaking session for fostering unity and progress in Boki Local Government Area.
