DEMOCRACY DAY COMMEMORATION.
Yesterday, 8th June 2025, the supersonic and iconic Commissioner for Information, Cross River State, Hon. Erasmus Ekpang PhD. was in attendance at the Interdenominational Christian Thanksgiving service held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Egerton street, Calabar, as part of this year’s Democracy Day celebrations. In attendance were His Excellency, Apostle, Senator Prince Bassey Otu and his dear wife, Her Excellency, Bishop Eyoawan Bassey Otu, the Speaker CRSHA and his dear wife, Senators, members of the National and State Assembly, Exco members, Chairmen of Local Government Councils and other political appointees. The Information boss, when speaking with newsmen in the state’s capital, Calabar, emphasized on the need for Nigerians to live in love, peace and unity, irrespective of ethnicity and religion. Governor Otu’s dedicatedness and steadfastness to his campaign promises is indeed inspiring and setting a precedent in governance, demonstrating unspoken dexterity to service delivery and results-oriented policies. Dr. Erasmus said. Furthermore, he charged Cross Riverians in particular and Nigerians in general to always compliment on the sacrifices of those who have paid the ultimate price. Highlights of the Events are the Townhall meeting organized by the ministry of Information at the Calabar International Convention Centre (CICC) to mark Their Excellencies Two Years Anniversary in office as Executive Governor and Deputy respectively on 29th May, 2025. At the townhall meeting, score card of the “People-First” administration so far was captured by the Vice chairman, State Planning Committee, Dr. Bong Duke. The event was broadcasted on National Televisions. In a voluminous speech, the Governor stood before his people and citizens with utmost humility and integrity bearing stewardship to his two years of purposeful and effective leadership and promised to always deliver, stand by his people in support to Mr. President’s vision, mission of the “Renewed Hope” mantra. The Governor used the occasion to commission the Ultramodern Governor’s office and the Local Government Service Commission among other commissioned projects to mark the occasion. The Local Government Service Commission is an idea birthed by the Executive Governor of Cross River State to draw government’s attention, developments and policies nearer to the grassroots which he described as the bedrock and foundation of his people-first administration. The Governor while delivering his address, maintained that one of the policy thrust of his administration is to focus aggressively on job creation, economic advancement, enhancing security measures, improving the educational system, impacting social stability, transparency, accountability and the rule of law in governance. From the moment we took office on May29, 2023, we made a resolute decision to treat governance as a sacred duty and an avenue for service to the people and not an opportunity to enmass wealth. Let us remain united, focused and steadfast, the journey ahead is bright. The journey is ours. The glory belongs to God and the victory will be our destiny. “The Governor concluded”. The event continues on June 12th with a walk by the women organized by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Sen. Dame Florence Ita Giwa. This walk will commence at the 11/11 roundabouts to Governor’s Office where the women will publicly endorse President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Apostle Sen. Prince Bassey Otu for second terms. End.
