To my esteemed brothers and sisters across the Central Senatorial District, particularly within Old Obubra and Old Ikom, I extend warm greetings. As we navigate the political landscape of our beloved Cross River State, it is imperative that we conduct our affairs with the spirit of unity, equity, and mutual respect that has historically bound us together. Our strength lies in our ability to foster understanding and uphold the principles of fair rotation and shared responsibility.
I. The Central Senatorial Seat: A Call for Equitable Rotation
The representation of our Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly is a matter of profound importance, impacting every corner of our Senatorial District. While the governorship position rightly concerns the entire state, the Senate seat is a direct mandate from us, the people of this district, central.
It is a well-established understanding, rooted in our collective desire for fairness, that such critical offices should rotate among the constituent blocs within our district. Just as we observe rotational agreements within federal constituencies like Boki and Ikom, the Senate position demands a similar commitment to equity.
In this spirit, I wish to make a heartfelt appeal for the upcoming Senate position:
Historical Context: We, the people of Old Ikom, have had the distinct privilege of occupying the Central Senatorial seat for an uninterrupted period of 24 years. This significant duration underscores the need for a deliberate and conscious effort towards balancing political opportunities within our district.
Advocacy for Old Obubra: Therefore, in the interest of equity, brotherhood, and sustained harmony, I strongly advocate for the Senate position to remain with Old Obubra. This gesture would not only honour our unwritten agreements but also reinforce the trust and collaborative spirit essential for our collective progress. Let us continue to demonstrate our support for Old Obubra in this regard.
II. Looking Ahead: The 2031 Governorship and Reciprocity
While our immediate focus is on the Senate, it is equally important to plan strategically for the future, particularly regarding the governorship of Cross River State.
Central's Turn in 2031: The year 2031 is widely recognized as the rightful turn for the Central Senatorial District to produce the Governor of Cross River State. This is a moment we eagerly anticipate, and for which we must lay the groundwork now through unity and mutual support.
A Call for Reciprocity from Old Obubra: When that time comes, we will respectfully remind our brothers in Old Obubra of the historical support they have received from the Central Senatorial District in producing governors. Notably, figures such as Chief Clement Ebri and Senator Liyel Imoke both hail from the Old Obubra bloc and benefited from the collective support of the Central District.
Old Ikom's Aspirations: It will then be time for our Old Obubra brothers to reciprocate this long-standing support by endorsing and rallying behind candidates from Old Ikom for the governorship. We in Old Ikom are blessed with numerous highly qualified individuals, each capable of leading our state with distinction, and we eagerly look forward to the opportunity to present our best.
Finally, our shared history and future prosperity are intertwined. By upholding the principles of equity and brotherhood in the allocation of the Central Senatorial seat now, we build a stronger foundation for our collective aspirations, including the governorship in 2031. Let us demonstrate political maturity and solidarity, ensuring that every part of our district feels valued and represented. Together, we can achieve greater heights for the Central Senatorial District and for Cross River State as a whole.
