The Central Bank of Nigeria has said that paper currency will soon be out of circulation, urging market men and women to sign into the e-Naira. The Delta State Branch Controller of CBN, Mr Godwin Okafor, stated this on Friday at the popular Ogbogonogo market during the market sensitisation on e-Naira. He urged traders to key into the central bank’s e-Naira policy. He said, “We are here at the market today to sensitise the market people on the use of e-Naira. It is fully backed by CBN, unlike Bitcoin which has no legal backing.” The consultant of CBN on e-Naira, Dr. Aminu Bizi, said Delta was chosen as the second state to sensitise market women on e-Naira after Lagos. “We are here to sensitise market men and women, shop to shop on the use of e-Naira. CBN has gone behind ATM, POS, therefore, we are going to meet the Okada/tricycle union on this policy. “Paper currency will soon be out of circulation because CBN spent money to print money and people abuse the currency in the mar...

PEOPLE WITH A TRACK RECORD OF KINDNESS DO WELL IN NASS

Image
PEOPLE WITH A TRACK RECORD OF KINDNESS DO WELL IN NASS. The most successful members of the National Assembly accordingto a recent report are people who are naturally kind or generous. The report added that in Nigeria's transactional politics where money has become one of the focal indices for success it is people with a natural disposition to give that have been able to make a mark in the National Assembly.  The report which arose from a nationwide research conducted by National Think-tank, a non - governmental organisation, discovered that because of the difficult economic climate in the country, constituents are increasingly expecting their representatives to give them cash handouts to help them with the challenges of feeding, school fees, medical bills and general upkeep of families.  The report advises constituents to elect people who are naturally kind, receptive and approachable and who are available at all times to assist them in their times of need. All the presidential aspirants in the All Progressives Congress, except a former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, are open to the idea of the candidate of the party emerging through consensus,

Image
All the presidential aspirants in the All Progressives Congress, except a former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, are open to the idea of the candidate of the party emerging through consensus, The consensus method will entail the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), anointing one of the aspirants, while the others simply step down for him as was done during the March 26 national convention of the APC, which produced Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the chairman. It was gathered that all the governors on the platform of the ruling party had also adopted the method at the state level. However, based on the Electoral Act, any aspirant who agrees to step down must do so in writing. Anything short of this will make the consensus option impossible. In a bid to force the consensus method, the APC had introduced a controversial section in its forms for aspirants to sign that they would step down. However, that this was rejected by the aspirants. Some major aspirants...

Even though he has earned a PhD and have been decorated with the Cross of Knighthood, Jake Otu Enyia is widely referred to as "Chief

Image
UNDERSTAND THE PLACE OF CHIEF (DR) JAKE OTU ENYIA IN THE POLITICS OF CROSS RIVER STATE BY DOMINIC KIDZU Many of my admirers would probably be surprised that I am scribbling jaunty lines for Chief Jake Otu Enyia and extolling his virtues on parchment codices. To all of you with such concerns I will respond in the manner of the immutable Dr Martin Luther King Jnr, that I have decided to stick with love, since hate is too great a burden for me to bear. There comes a time in the life of a man when they have to put away the dark events of the past and journey forward to the sunset of their lives without the cross of ill feeling against the men they have met on the road of life but with hope in the awesome evanescence of the final day. As Mahatma Ghandi also said " I look only to the good qualities of men, not being faultless myself, I won't presume to probe into the faults of others". Even though he has earned a PhD and have been decorated with the Cross of Knighthood,...

WHY THE CENTRAL AND NORTH MUST WORK TOGETHER

Image
WH Y THE CENTRAL AND NORTH MUST WORK TOGETHER ! It has become obvious, even imperative, isn't it, that the people of Central and Northern senatorial zones of our dear state should work together if they must remain relevant in the politics of Cross River State. Since the greatest weapon of annihilation of a race or a people is ignorance there is an urgent need for the two zones to realise their historical and cultural affinity and their shared experiences in the defunct Eastern region and the South Eastern state. There is no doubt in my mind that this same cultural and linguistic affinity between the Efiks and the Ibibios has helped to estrange the Efiks from their Central and Northern brothers and sisters with whom they cannot feel any spiritual bond at all. And this unfortunate phenomenon is not about to abate anytime soon, no matter how much the politicians pretend on their way to the dinning table. Central and Northern zones must come together and form an impregnable block wit...

SIX POSERS FOR GOVERNOR BEN AYADE By; Enoch Bassey

Image
SIX POSERS FOR GOVERNOR BEN AYADE By; Enoch Bassey 1. Does the governor seriously believe that based on his performance as a state governor he can be considered for the very high office of president by his party, the APC? 2. Did the governor bring out money from his private business to purchase the multiple forms or did the monies come from the coffers of Cross River State whose workers have still not been paid their April salaries? 3. Did the governor not know about the now phantom senatorial ambition of two of his closest aides, Chief Martins Orim and the popular Dr. MC? 4. Can the governor who is a Catholic Knight swear by the Holy Bible that he has no senatorial ambition and will not stand elections for that office come 2023? 5. If indeed it turns out that he knew all along and he is eventually on the ballot for that office, should Cross River people believe that he has been telling them the truth or otherwise? 6. When a father tells open lies to his children can they still be ...

KEY ISSUES ABOUT CONSENSUS GOVERNORSHIP IN CROSS RIVER STATE

Image
KEY ISSUES ABOUT CONSENSUS GOVERNORSHIP IN CROSS RIVER STATE There can be no bigger office in a state, any state, than the office of Governor. Perhaps that is why the hunger or passion or zeal to occupy that office is always so impassioned and sometimes fratricidal. There is no doubt that there is much to gain by being the Governor of a state, never mind the homilies about patriotism, passion for service and so on that are the general punchline of most aspirants on the campaign trail. The Governor of the state is the temporary Lord of the Manor, the representative of God within that time and space, an official King Kong for an unbelievable sublime period of four or even eight years during which (in the Nigerian reality) he can make and unmake men, turn celebrated idiots into monarchs and change the life story to good or to bad of all those who come under his orbit. THE FEAR OF THEIR OWN SHADOW It is not a surprise therefore that the contest usually becomes fierce, employing...

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE THREAT OF VIOLENCE AGAINST CHIEF (BAR) CHRIS AGARA BY OROK OTU DUKE

Image
  1. The attention of Chief (Bar) Chris Agara Campaign Organisation has been drawn to a comedy strip in which Honourable Orok Otu Duke is the stand up comedian. While he succeeded in making his audience laugh he also made a very serious commitment to violence against those who refuse to accept the Consensus Option.  2. We recognise the obvious threat to the life of Chief Chris Agara and his followers advocated in the video to the loud applause of the men sitting in the room, including the state Governor, and will take very profound measures to protect our Principal and ourselves throughout the period of electioneering. While he humoured Governor Ben Ayade in the same video for making Chief Chris Agara rich during his Governorship, our Principal who God has already generously blessed long before 2015 will make an appropriate response to this mat...
